Ticket Resale Price Dropping Ahead Of 49ers Regular Season Opener At Levi’s Stadium

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF)  –  The 49ers home opener at Levi’s Stadium was one of the hottest games in the league when the tickets were printed, but it appears the amount people are willing to pay to see the first ever regular season game at the new Santa Clara stadium has dropped sharply, based on average sale price.

The ticket monitoring website TickPick has tracked the average daily price for the Chicago Bears vs. San Francisco 49ers game since early April and found that the cost of a ticket has dropped more than $200 since that time. The demand peaked on April 29th, when seats were selling for $613, but trailed off steadily into the $550 range for most of June, July and early August. On August 20th the average price stood at $533 per-seat, but an even faster drop off has taken place over the last several weeks, with the average sale price now coming in under $400. This could reflect a lack of interest, or simply indicate that less expensive tickets are now changing hands more frequently.

As of Friday StubHub, the top resale site, listed the average price as $373 for a ticket. That’s more than $100 higher for the home opener at Candlestick Park last year, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The team released individual game tickets to members of their “Faithful 49″ loyalty program earlier this week. Those seats started at $145 plus a $14 fee per seat, about $15 less than the cheapest seats available on StubHub Friday.  StubHub had more than 3,000 tickets available for the game as of Friday afternoon, three times as many as listed for the Texans-Raiders game in Oakland Sunday, but only about 800 more seats than are available in San Diego, where the Chargers will take on defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle. Tickets at those venues start at $80 and $100 respectively.

Despite the relative abundance of tickets in Santa Clara, some fans are looking to cash in on the game by offering seats for $4,000 or more in on StubHub. The 49ers list their most expensive single game ticket at $559.

Just last week a survey from Chicago-based Team Marketing Report found that families will have to shell out an estimated $641.50 to attend a 49ers game on average, more than any other stadium in the league.
