SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – It doesn’t look like San Francisco 49ers fans are willing to pay through the nose to check out the second regular season game ever at Levi’s Stadium.
Members of the San Francisco 49ers “Faithful 49″ loyalty program were offered “exclusive” pre-sale single game tickets for this Sunday’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, but just below the purchase window on Ticketmaster, fans were being offered resale seats for far less, often right in the same section.
As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the lowest-priced seats made available through the team were sold out, but the relatively affordable seats in the 400 deck could easily be found through resellers, for about $20 less than what the 49ers price them. On StubHub there were more than a dozen offers for groups of seats in various quantity for at least $20 cheaper than what the 49ers were offering them. A pair of tickets in section 401 could be had for $220.30, compared to $295 sale price through the 49ers, had they been available.
The more prime seats in the 400 section were available in the “Faithful 49″ pre-sale Thursday. Those were offered at $168 each. Tickets at the same value level could be found on Ticketmaster for $145.63 and On StubHub For $133.25 including all the fees.
The pricing gap was even larger among the higher priced tickets, where you could get the best available seats for the Faithful 49 at 229.00 in section 103. Similar end-zone seats could be had for $184.07 on Ticketmaster and $143 on StubHub. The 49ers list their most expensive seats at three price levels in the “club” sections near the 50 yard line. Seats in those sections that retail for $506 and up could be found for as little at $306. 50 on StubHub.
A similar decline in resale price was evident before the regular season opener at Levi’s. Like that game, the Eagles contest is one of four this season at Levi’s labeled marquee, meaning the seats cost a bit more than the four lower-profile contests and the preseason games.
While the structure and the fan experience in Levi’s have been getting mostly positive reviews, the cost of attending games and traffic problems getting to and from the stadium have gained headlines lately. Earlier this month, a survey from Chicago-based Team Marketing Report found that families will have to shell out an estimated $641.50 to attend a 49ers game on average, more than any other stadium in the league.
